Leaking Water Mystery

We have water leaking into the basement from what appears to be the floor above, but we can’t figure out where it’s coming from. It’s a wood floor above the basement with no plumbing. We do have a bay window in the room above. Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

Gary,

The Importance of Gutters and Downspouts

Who can I call for gutters and downspouts?

Paula,

Thanks for the inquiry – we appreciate your trust!

Properly designed gutters must be professionally installed and maintained to perform well. They are a vital key in preserving the home and keeping unwanted “active water” from destroying the home.

The downspouts – or “conductor pipes” as many architects like to call them – are a critical part of the design and installation. Simply “dumping” the roof water at the corners of the foundation is not ..read more

Overflowing Downspouts

Name: Greg

City: Armada

Question: The down spouts on our house go into undergroud 4″ PVC pipe that are about 15 feet long. Today’s rain has caused the water to overflow out of the down spout before it goes into the ground. I am assuming that frozen water in the run away from the house is to blame. What is the best way to fix this?

Comment: I love to listen to you guys on WMUZ and love the back and forth banter.

Gutter Installation

Name: Patty

City: Clawson

Question: I have an old awning, but had water leakage from where two gutters meet up. The gutters were plastic, we took them down and had a few “handy men” go up on the awning and caulk it. Needless to say, we still have water going in between old aluminum siding and the wall and pouring out from behind the siding onto our cement porch. I need a professional to come out and put new gutters above the awning and all around ..read more

Gutter Gripe

Name: Kevin City: Royal Oak

Question

I have an issue with water running over a short gutter run (about 4 feet) and during the winter the ice builds up. The water then overflows and runs down the inside corner of the outside framing of the fireplace and pulls the paint off of and rots the wood in the area.

Kevin,

Thanks for listening – we appreciate it!

Could be couple things with that rain gutter filling up and diverting water where water should not go.

Often times they are simply not ..read more
